Mental Health Goals for Mercer County

According to primary data collected directly from the people of Mercer County in 2019, approximately 83% of adults in our community suffer from anxiety, depression or another mental health condition and 56% perceive mental health as a health concern in our community. 

If you are one of the many people in our community who struggle with mental health, you are not alone. As a community organization, our goal is to make sure that you know that. We are committed to promoting the awareness and understanding of mental health issues in our community and to increasing access and availability to local mental health services and resources.

How do I know if my mental health is suffering?

We all experiences changes in our moods and emotions, but when these changes cause disruption of your day-to-day life it may be cause for concern. Mental illness is a broad term that can include mild to moderate depression and anxiety, bipolar and mood disorders, schizophrenia, personality disorders, as well as many other types of conditions. While the symptoms of these conditions vary significantly, there are some common signs and symptoms that may indicate you should talk to a healthcare professional about your mental health. How do I seek help for my mental health?

Coming here was a great place to start. Recognizing your need for help is a crucial first step. Depending on your situation, there are different types of treatment and support available.

If you feel are not experiencing a crisis, there are other non-emergency resources available to help you. Your primary care provider or family doctor is a good first point of contact. They may be able to help you treat your symptoms or they may refer you to a specialty care provider. If you do not have a family doctor, you can find a list of local primary care providers here.

Seeking help from a therapist or counselor is also very beneficial to many people who struggle with their mental health. You can find a list of local mental health providers here.

How do I support someone who is struggling with their mental health?

There is no one way to support someone who is struggling with mental health.  There are resources available to help you recognize mental health struggles in others and prepare you to have conversations about mental health with a loved one.

Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use problems by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental illness or substance use disorder.  Find training near you.
